NTNU PhD Candidates Visit CMMI for Seafloor Exploration Course and Collaborative Exchange

On January 23, 2025, the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) welcomed three doctoral candidates from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) as part of ongoing collaboration under the LORELEI-X project, a Horizon Europe Twinning initiative focused on advancing autonomous marine technologies.

Leonard Günzel, Jakob Odenwald, and Hassan Elkholy joined CMMI’s team in Larnaca to attend the course “Seafloor Exploration and Characterisation,” hosted by CMMI experts. The visit also included a series of bilateral meetings with CMMI scientists working across fields such as marine robotics, maritime digitalisation, and underwater archaeology.

The exchange offered valuable opportunities for in-depth discussion and technical insight, strengthening the project’s goal of building sustainable collaboration between partner institutions.

Forging close working relationships between CMMI and its advanced partners — NTNU, DTU Aqua, and DTU Electro — is key to achieving the long-term impact of LORELEI-X and identifying future research and innovation synergies.

CMMI extended its thanks to Leonard, Jakob, and Hassan for their active engagement, and looks forward to upcoming return study visits in Norway and Denmark later in 2025.
